Injunction to Stay Provisional Approval of COVID Vaccine for Children aged 5- 11, sought by The Australian Vaccination-risks Network (AVN) and supported by Children’s Health Defense Australia.
Children’s Health Defense Australia fully supports the Australian Vaccination-risks Network, Inc (AVN), which recently announced the imminent filing of an urgent injunction in the Federal Court of Australia to review the decision of the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) to provisionally approve Pfizer’s (Comirnaty) injection for 5 – 11 year olds.
According to the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI), most children with SARS-CoV-2 infection are asymptomatic or experience a mild illness, with short duration. Further, data from the Australian National Notifiable Diseases Surveillance System from June 6 to October 17, 2021 (during the Delta outbreak) showed that children aged 5-11 years (8.9% of the total population) were the least likely of all age groups to require hospitalisation or ICU admission for COVID-19.
The Australian Product Information for the Pfizer (Comirnaty) injection for children 5-11 years of age – which is available on the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) website – states the following: “The safety evaluation in Study C4591007 is ongoing” and in terms of adverse events it states, “As these reactions were derived from spontaneous reports, the frequencies could not be determined and are thus considered as not known: … – Immune System disorders: Anaphylaxis, hypersensitivity reactions (e.g. rash, pruritis, urticaria, angioedema) – Cardiac disorders: Myocarditis, pericarditis…”
Given the trials were under-powered to detect any rare, serious adverse events, and the long-term harms are unknown, administering this injection to children in this age demographic clearly outweighs any benefit. The ongoing clinical trial and the very low risk of the disease to this demographic (particularly given the mild nature of the omicron variant currently circulating), provides a basis for urgent review.
