10 Reasons why parents question vaccination

For some time now, members of the government and the medical industry have tried to explain away the phenomenon of parental refusal to vaccinate. Despite the government’s own studies, such as Rogers and Pilgrim; 1993, which shows that “Older, highly educated parents form the basis of the [sic] anti-immunisation lobby”, parents continue to be accused of being ignorant, uncaring and stupid for refusing vaccines which the medical community claim will keep their children healthy.

Varicella vaccination: a double edged sword?

With effect from July 2002 a l i v e a t t e n u a t e d varicella-zoster virus (VZV) vaccine has become available for use in the UK. It is currently licensed only for susceptibles over the age of twelve years and younger contacts of highrisk individuals (such as leukaemic children), but there will inevitably be calls for its wider use. However, widespread varicella vaccination has potential knock-on effects, the most important of which is that on the incidence of herpes zoster (shingles).
