Meningococcal Print E-mail

Given as part of the Australian childhood schedule at 12 mths. 

Caused by a number of different strains of the bacteria Neisseria meningitidis, meningococcal diseases include:
meningitis (inflammation of the membranes around the brain and spinal cord); septicaemia (blood infection); pneumonia (lung infection); arthritis; and conjunctivitis (eye infection).

HPV Print E-mail
HPV is a sexually transmitted infection, mostly affecting women 20 to 24 years of age. Almost all abnormal Pap smear results are caused by HPV. In 98% of cases HPV clears by itself. In rare cases, if the virus persists and if left undetected, it can lead to cervical cancer. This usually takes about 10 years.
