Hepatitis A Print E-mail

Hepatitis A is one of several different hepatitis viruses that can cause liver infections and damage  It spreads by contact with infected faeces. The virus survives well on hands and in food kept at room temperature for several hours. It can also spread through contaminated water in some countries.

Hib Print E-mail

Given as part of the Australian schedule at 2, 4, 6 and 12 mths 

Commonly found in the upper respiratory tract (lungs and windpipe), Hib can cause infection in children under 2 years, because they do not have the necessary antibodies (substance produced by the body to fight a particular infection).

Polio Print E-mail

Given as part of the Australian childhood schedule at 2, 4 and 6 mths. 

Polio is caused by a virus, and symptoms of the disease can take between 3 and 21 days after infection to show.
The polio virus spreads between people through contact with infected faeces and throat secretions.
