SAVN attacks AVN’s up-coming Canberra Seminar

October 22, 2012 | 6 Comments | Filed under: Abuse from SAVN members, Seminars and Events

Every time the AVN hosts a seminar, Stop the AVN (SAVN) instantly goes on the attack. They do not want people to be able to access our information. SAVN feels that the Australian public is too stupid to be able to listen to both sides of this debate and to make an informed decision after doing their own research. SAVN absolutely opposes anyone who discusses scientifically-based information on the real risks and ineffectiveness of currently-licensed vaccines. As far as they are concerned, vaccination should be compulsory and there should be no information available that questions either safety or effectiveness.

The AVN is hosting a vaccination seminar in Canberra, ACT on Saturday, November 10th. For the first time, we will not be releasing the name of the venue until the day before the event and even then, it will only be released to those who have booked tickets. The reason for this is that in the past, we have had to hire security guards because of threats from these abusive people and at times, venues have been very concerned about the possible presence of SAVN members. We have a right to protect ourselves, the venues that have allowed us to speak and the audience that attends to become better informed about this vital issue.

This is just one of the many reasons why I say without any fear of being criticised for it, that SAVN is a hate group and just like terrorist organisations, racists or groups who bomb abortion clinics, they should not be respected nor should the media or government bodies work with them as they currently do.

Our seminar was just announced and already, SAVN are out to file complaints against it. It will be hard for them to stop it at this point in time since they don’t know where it will be held, but instead, they are trying a different tactic. Please read below. I will update this page as new information emerges.

Does the SAVN always advertise where their meetings are to be held ? So that I (a mum with a “vaccine injured” child) can attend.

As far as I know, SAVN doesn’t have meetings. They are not there to help, to inform or for any other purpose. They exist for one reason and one reason only – to force the AVN to close. They are a hate group and don’t do anything to assist anyone who is trying to make informed vaccination decisions – their only answer to questioning parents is – vaccinate no matter what happens.

“They are a hate group and don’t do anything to assist anyone who is trying to make informed vaccination decisions – their only answer to questioning parents is – vaccinate no matter what happens.”

That is patently untrue and I challenge you to publish this response. We offer plenty of links to quality information for people who seek knowledge, although that is not our primary role. And. as you should well know, we constantly talk about the importance of vaccination to protect those who CANNOT be vaccinated. I emphasise the words CANNOT because it is well known that there a very small percentage of people who CANNOT be vaccinated.

We are entirely about people making informed vaccination decisions. Indeed our main issue with the AVN is that your information is entirely anti-vaccination and largely based on unsubstantiated anecdotes, myths and misinformation.

Our only answer to questioning parents is certainly not ‘vaccinate no matter what happens’. Clearly you need to spend a bit more time reading the many quality posts that are posted under the SAVN admin tag. ‘Post by others’ can be a little less reliable but the commentary which follows will alert you to the more informed position. We certainly don’t let nonsense sit on our page unchallenged.

Sian – I know I have asked you this before. Look up the definition of hate group, take a good honest look at SAVN and then, see if you still say that the group to which you belong is not all about hate.

            Ok. Wikipedia has a definition:

“A hate group is an organized group or movement that advocates and practices hatred, hostility, or violence towards members of a race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation or other designated sector of society. According to the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), hate groups’ “primary purpose is to promote animosity, hostility, and malice against persons belonging to a race, religion, disability, sexual orientation, or ethnicity/national origin which differs from that of the members of the organization.”[1] The Southern Poverty Law Center’s (SPLC) definition of a “hate group” includes those having beliefs or practices that attack or malign an entire class of people, typically for their immutable characteristics.[2]”

Misunderstandings about medical treatments is not an “immutable characteristic” nor any of race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, etc.

So, it is already not a hate group before we even address whether it is advocating violence, hatred or hostility.

Thank you for suggesting this diversion. I trust you will stop referring to SAVN as a hate group now that we all know better.

Take a look at the pages of stop the AVN and the australian skeptics – they both fit the definition of hate group perfectly.
